Senior Project Reflection

1. During my two-hour presentation I was most proud of being able to teach people about chid abuse treatment in a way that it seemed that they enjoyed. I was also proud that  of the research that I was able to get a hold of.

2. (P) because I feel as though I did everything that was asked of me.
Overall, i feel like I did a (P) job because I was consistent the whole year, doing what was asked.

3. I think learning how to find really good research really worked for me. It is something that I will use for the rest of my life. Another thing that worked was research for something that might be a future career for me.

4. I think that everything was meaningful in some way. OH! But I think that people who present second are at a disadvantage because they have less time to set up.

5. I plan on being a child psychologist and child abuse is something that psychologists need to deal with. I learned a lot about different types of therapies. Some that I will. hopefully, some day use.

Service Learning

Ruth Finnigan: (909)985-1305

Interpretive: While doing volnteer work at Samaritan Counseling Center, I learned many things. I learned two different "most important" things. The first one being that I learned about how it feels to work in real life. I learned that you aren't always going to do things that you want to do. You're going to do things that you do not really feel like doing or you don't want to do. You are also going to work with people you wouldn't normally want to work with but you still have to do it. I also learned that my best answer for my EQ makes sense.

Applied: While I was going to service learning, I noticed that they only used one type of therapy with children. They used play therapy, I wondered about this for a very long time. When I finally asked them, they told me that it was one of the most effective forms of treatment. It worked very well, because it is one of the ways in which children feel the most comfortable and that is one huge factor in if the therapy is successful or not. I think that being around play therapy so much made me biased for it, but it worked. Not only did personal experience with it show me that it was the most effective form to treat an abused child but so did a lot of my research. So, all in all, service learning helped me find my best answer.

Independent Component 2

I, Anahi Gamboa, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.  For thirty hours, I did research on child abuse treatments. I read personal stories about it, I had a conversation with someone that was abused when they were young and I read different books.

My independent component helped me have a better understanding for what child abuse treatments really entail. This independent component helped me understand that treatment is very important for children to recover, but other things are important too. Things such as the child's comfort, the child's interest, and their feelings at the moment.

The 'product' of this independent component was some of what I said earlier, I got a more detailed understanding of what things should be involved in the therapy for the child to have a good end result. I also learned that the type of therapy that the child goes through has a lot to do with the end result.

Helping 2013

I had two interviews, the first is Jesse Murillo. I interviewed him tuesday 2/24 in Melogno's room at lunch.

1. What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
Jesse: For my senior poject I plan on doing the Solar Cup because I feel like it is a good way to get noticed by colleges.
Me: Solar Cup would be interesting for him to do but he needs to have everything set like service learning and start thinking about what things he could do for independent components.

2. What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning which is due prior to senior year starting?
Jesse: I am actually not sure what to do for service learning.
Me: that he can probably find a solar panel professional and work with them for service learning since the Solar Cup is about solar panels and stuff.

3. What do you expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?
Jesse: I would like to see interesting things and learn about new things that I don't know about. I also want to see some culinary art ones, I like cooking and I was thinking about doing that as my senior project.
Me: You should keep an open mind when walking in to them and notice everything. Start getting an idea of what your two hour can look like.

4. What questions do you have about the senior prjoect?
Jesse: I don't have too many questions, Melogno has filled me in on most things. The only thing that I really have a question about the different components.
Me: The major components are basically the interviews, your service learning, your two independent components, science fair (you can probably do something with solar panels) and your research.

My second interview was with Roxana Castaneda, I also interviewed her in Melogno's during lunch on Tuesday 4/24.

1. What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
Roxana: I don't really know what I want to do for my senior project.
Me: You should think about things you like, or things that interest you. Things that you would like to learn more about or things that you know you can do.

2. What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning which is due prior to senior year starting?
Roxana: My mom works at a nursing home and my sister works at a hospital so I might be able to do some work there. Maybe I should do my senior project on something medical like that.
Me: Make sure you do something that you can do, but do something that you actually want to do.

3. What do you expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?
Roxana: I haven't really heard about any of the projects that the seniors are doing, I just hope that they aren't boring.
Me: You should keep an open mind when walking in to them and notice everything. Start getting an idea of what your two hour can look like.

4. What questions do you have about the senior prjoect?
Roxana: The only question that I have is about the essential question. Like, do you make it up?
Me: You make up your own essential question, and you go where you want with it. Like my senior project is child abuse. I could have gone with the prevention of it, but I went with the treatment of it. And your whole senior project is basically based around your essential question.

Answer 3

EQ: What is the best way to psychologically treat an abused child?

Answer 3: The best way to treat a psychologically abused child is by using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Evidence: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a type of therapy where children are given different situations and they have to solve the problems on their own. If children are exposed to more problems and have them solve the problems on their own, they are more likely to not be found in problems. They can also take themselves out of certain problems, especially dangerous ones.
