Service Learning

Interpretive: While doing volnteer work at Samaritan Counseling Center, I learned many things. I learned two different "most important" things. The first one being that I learned about how it feels to work in real life. I learned that you aren't always going to do things that you want to do. You're going to do things that you do not really feel like doing or you don't want to do. You are also going to work with people you wouldn't normally want to work with but you still have to do it. I also learned that my best answer for my EQ makes sense.

Applied: While I was going to service learning, I noticed that they only used one type of therapy with children. They used play therapy, I wondered about this for a very long time. When I finally asked them, they told me that it was one of the most effective forms of treatment. It worked very well, because it is one of the ways in which children feel the most comfortable and that is one huge factor in if the therapy is successful or not. I think that being around play therapy so much made me biased for it, but it worked. Not only did personal experience with it show me that it was the most effective form to treat an abused child but so did a lot of my research. So, all in all, service learning helped me find my best answer.

Service Learning

1. For my service learning, I am working at Samartian Counseling Center in Upland.

2. Ruth Finnigan, is my contact.

3. Over winter break, I went in. I worked in the main office area, I inputed surveys into the computer so I saw what the clients have to say about the counseling center. I also, did things that needed to be done around the office like file things.

4. As of right now, I have a total of 33 hours.
